Grade: 13  6 hours per day/5 days per week

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 60 college credit hours or an Associates Degree or Kentucky Para Educator Certificate. Desire minimun of one year experience in the supervision of children.

REPORTS TO: Principals and Director of Student Programs and Services

JOB GOAL:To help students make successful transition to American schools and culture; desire experience working with students from other cultures.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

A.Elementary and Middle School:
1.Tutors students in language arts (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
2.Teaches conversational English and daily patterns of speech.
3.Discusses school scheduled events, announcements of the day and current events of the community with students.
4.Discusses customs, etiquette as the need arises and rules of the school with the students.
5.Serves as liaison with teacher and parents about daily assignments, scheduled tests and projects.

B.High School:
1.Coaches in all subjects with emphasis on assisting students’ learning.
2.Serves as liaison with teachers concerning assignments, special tests and projects.
3.Provides a check and proof reading of work to assigned students.
4.Discusses announcements of the day, scheduled events of school and community with assigned students.
5.Teaches conversational English through the questions of the students, including customs and rules of etiquette.

C. Communicates with teachers on progress of students.

D.Completes all local and state reports.

E.Assists teachers in completing ESL/LEP referrals.

F.Assists teachers in developing and implementing LEP plans.

G.Assists ESL Consulting Teacher in administering LEP assessments.

H.Other duties as assigned by principals or Director of student Programs and Services.

*Plan and organize daily and weekly schedules.
*Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
*Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements, restrictions and limitations.
*Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to the position.
*Establish and maintain rapport with students and staff.
